Vaccinations, Life, and the Common Good

Most of us have a commonsensical grasp of the common good, which we can apply easily if we do not allow ourselves to be misled. Pro-life arguments can be strengthened by appeals to the common good. Pro-choice forces, however, often encourage us to misunderstand or neglect the...

Carved in Stone

Gutzon Borglum is not exactly a household name, though the quartet of faces he carved on Mt. Rushmore is familiar to virtually every American. His artistic achievement is probably the most spectacular of its kind ever produced. The lifelike busts of presidents Washington,...

A Pastor's Reflections

When the Church is silent, we display our true loves (When the Church is Silent, #10 of 10)

You shall not covet (Exod 20:17).  Defending the vulnerable—the fatherless and the widow—is costly. It is costly because people who profit by oppression will not stand by idly and allow their darkness to be exposed, but will fight back...

When the Church is silent, we support the killing of the vulnerable (When the Church is Silent, #9 of 10)

Lessons From Virginia

Amidst all of the press concerning the proposed abortion bill in Virginia, there were two matters that grabbed my attention, each saying something important about our country. The first was the call by many prominent Democrats for Governor Ralph Northam’s resignation after a...

A Modest Solution for the MAGA Problem

The Covington, Kentucky, high-school students who wore “Make America Great Again” caps at the recent March for Life in Washington may wish they had chosen different head-gear. Caps with pro-life slogans would have harmonized with the March’s goal, and they would not have...

About the Human Life Review

Human Life Review
The Human Life Review is the only publication of its kind in the world: a journal devoted to life issues, primarily abortion (William F. Buckley once praised it as "the focus of civilized discussion of the abortion issue"), but also "neonaticide," genetic engineering, cloning, and fetal tissue experimentation, as well as the end-of-life issues of euthanasia, assisted suicide and suicide. We also publish articles dealing with more general questions of family and society: what the "abortion mentality" has done to our culture; how moral relativism has pervaded our political process as well as our educational system; and how the debates over day care and the children's rights movements, as well as the controversy over health care and end-of-life decision making, reflect a society sharply divided on the most basic moral questions.
