Planned Parenthood of Illinois Closes Four Centers . . . That Don’t Offer Abortions
Planned Parenthood of Illinois plans to close four of its facilities, but only locations that do not provide abortions.
The abortion giant blamed an “uncertain patient care landscape,” according to WTTW. The news outlet also reported that Planned Parenthood has a “financial shortfall” that contributed to the closures.
The group also blamed “rising health care costs for in-person care,” “increase in patient volume needing financial assistance,” “and the need to create a sustainable future after the overturning of Roe v Wade.”
The claim of “financial” problems is odd, given that Planned Parenthood of Illinois’ latest Form 990, a tax return for nonprofits, shows it had $106 million in assets as of 2023 with $20 million in liabilities. The group also brought in nearly $9 million more than it had in expenses.
Planned Parenthood will expand its services at five other locations that do provide abortions. Abortion is a busy business for Planned Parenthood, particularly from out-of-state patients who come to have their preborn babies killed. Nearby states, such as Indiana, largely protect the unborn.
While President Donald Trump has said he does not support further federal protections for preborn babies, Vice President JD Vance said on the campaign trail that defunding Planned Parenthood is a possibility.
The decision by Planned Parenthood to close non-abortion facilities is further evidence the organization is not truly a health care provider, but rather has the primary goal of killing babies in the womb. The closures are still good news, though, since Planned Parenthood uses its centers to make referrals for abortions.
One study has also found that the more women have to travel for abortions, the less likely they are to have one. This may be undermined, however, by the widespread availability of abortion drugs.
For years, Planned Parenthood would claim that abortions are only “three percent” of what it does. That claim has been challenged, however, even by left-leaning news outlets. Pro-abortion Slate called the claim “meaningless” and “downright silly,” pointing out that Planned Parenthood counts one pack of birth control and one exam as separate services.
A Committee on Oversight and Government Reform report previously concluded the claim is “false” and also noted that Planned Parenthood, at least at one time, sat on $1.4 billion in assets.
Planned Parenthood appears to have backed away from that as a talking point, splashing “abortion” all over its website. Visitors to the Planned Parenthood Federation of America website are immediately offered help getting an abortion. “Need an abortion? We’re here to help,” the home page states.
“Abortion is a safe way to end a pregnancy,” the website claims.
Americans do not need Planned Parenthood to receive true, quality health care. There are thousands of federally qualified health centers that provide free to low-cost health care to individuals without health insurance or who do not make enough money.
Planned Parenthood is not a healthcare organization, and its decision to close four non-abortion centers in Illinois only further proves that.
