‘Bro-Choice’ is trying to make a comeback
The “bro-choice” movement is attempting to make a comeback this year in the commonwealth of Virginia which has elections, in November.
According to the Virginia Independent, the local Planned Parenthood organization “recently announced its launch of ‘Bros for Repro.’”
The campaign highlights “five Virginia delegates who are championing a resolution to amend the Virginia Constitution to establish a fundamental right to reproductive health care in the state.” By “reproductive health care” the newspaper means killing preborn babies.
“When it comes up on the doors of reproductive freedom, about right to access for an abortion, particularly when men are talking about it, it’s always from a place of love and care, because they’re talking about their wife or they’re talking about a sister, and in some cases cousins,” Delegate Josh Thomas, a Democrat, said.
Fellow Democratic Delegate Joshua Cole* even said killing a preborn baby is religious.
“I would just ask that we speak up, we show up, and we relentlessly stand up for the dignity and the sacred choice of every soul, every person, and affirming that justice is holy, freedom is sacred and real love honors choice,” Cole said during a recent meeting.
While the delegates frame the issue as a matter of supporting their friends and family, the background of the “bro choice” movement has always been about ensuring men can have sex without consequences.
Indeed, former Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg made this point prior to the 2024 presidential election. “Women’s freedom is Exhibit A after Donald Trump demolished the right to choose. But, of course, men are also more free in a country where we have a president who stands up for things like access to abortion care,” Buttigieg said last July.
The “bro choice” movement has always been about protecting casual sex for men, as documented by Life Issues Institute in 2013, when pro-abortion group Choice USA tried to get men on board with killing babies.
“Don’t be surprised if casual sex outside of relationships becomes far more difficult to come by,” one blogger wrote. Another writer said Oregon was “the best state to have sex in” because it had few limits on abortion.
However, real men know that the mostly manly thing to do is protect innocent life and take responsibility for one’s actions. Abortion is not about empowering women – rather it is about making it easier for men to escape responsibility for their decisions and to use women for their bodies. A real man would not tell his girlfriend or wife to kill their baby, but rather would do whatever he could to support his family and protect human life.
