Walgreens and CVS Will Soon Hand out Abortion Drugs
Walgreens and CVS will begin selling abortion drugs in some pharmacies.
The decision comes after President Joe Biden’s Food and Drug Administration loosened commonsense health and safety restrictions on distributing the drugs. The decision is facing a Supreme Court challenge.
“Walgreens expects to begin dispensing the drug ‘within a week,’ the company told ABC News,” the news outlet reported on March 1. “It will start providing the pill in a small number of its pharmacies in New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, California and Illinois.”
Red states are also on the agenda. “As far as potential expansion, Walgreens is keeping an eye on Kansas, Montana and Wyoming,” ABC News reported.
CVS is targeting Rhode Island and Massachusetts, but plans to look at other states as well. Massachusetts law also requires public universities to hand out the dangerous abortion drugs or partner with corporations such as Planned Parenthood.
Biden thanked the pharmacies for making it easier for women to get abortion drugs.
“The stakes could not be higher for women across America,” the president stated. “In the face of relentless attacks on reproductive freedom by Republican elected officials, Vice President Harris and I will continue to fight to ensure that women can get the health care they need, to defend the Food and Drug Administration’s independent and evidence-based approval and regulation of mifepristone, and to restore the protections of Roe v. Wade in federal law.”
“With major retail pharmacy chains newly certified to dispense medication abortion, many women will soon have the option to pick up their prescription at a local, certified pharmacy—just as they would for any other medication,” Biden said. “I encourage all pharmacies that want to pursue this option to seek certification.”
“Certification” is a misleading term, however. The company that does the “certification” is the manufacturer of the abortion drugs, hardly a neutral party.
“Walgreens was certified by Danco Labs, the brand name manufacturer. The chain also intends to seek certification from the generic manufacturer GenBioPro in the future,” ABC News reported.
Issues with the drugs include serious safety concerns, including death and excessive bleeding. Abusive men have also secretly used the drugs to kill or attempt to kill preborn babies.
Of course, abortion drugs can never be made truly safe since they are intended to end innocent human life. It is important pro-lifers continue to oppose abortion drugs and work against their distribution.
