Pro-life Voters More Motivated Than Pro-Abortion Ones, Poll Finds
A new poll suggests that citizens who support protections for preborn babies are more motivated than their pro-abortion peers. The results come from 19th News, which supports abortion, and polling company SurveyMonkey. The companies surveyed more than 20,000 adults in early September about a variety of political issues.
While the poll said only two percent of voters list abortion as their top issue, those who do are more likely to be pro-life.
“Among them, 57 percent want abortion mostly or completely outlawed; 39 percent say abortion should be banned in all cases, compared with only 10 percent of the general population,” 19th News reported recently.
The news outlet noted this is a reversal from the past several years when voters who listed abortion as their top issue were more likely to be pro-abortion.
Men were more likely to favor protections for innocent preborn babies, with 41% saying abortion should be illegal in most or all cases. Conversely, 67% of women wanted abortion legal in most or all cases.
As expected, Democrats generally favored allowing women to have abortions, while Republicans generally supported protecting innocent babies. In total, 64% of Republicans wanted at least some restrictions on abortion, compared to only 10% of Democrats. However, 34% of independents favored some restrictions on abortion.
The polling suggests that the Democratic Party’s obsessive focus on abortion and “reproductive rights” in the past several elections has backfired, or at least failed to make abortion the winning issue activists hoped it would be. While voters are not there yet on supporting complete protections for all preborn babies, the results show there is an opening for candidates who oppose abortion as they are appealing to more motivated citizens.
