California Spent At Least $75 Million On Abortions and Birth Control Since 2022
California taxpayers have spent at least $75 million subsidizing abortions and birth control under special programs created after the reversal of Roe v. Wade in June 2022.
But the San Francisco Examiner reports the “Uncompensated Care Grant” program is running out of money.
So far it has distributed “$36.5 million over the past three years” to organizations that do abortions and hand out birth control. At least some of the money has gone to helping teenagers from out of state kill their babies, according to an official state report. While the program also covers birth control, it is clear from two accompanying projects that the purpose is to facilitate the killing of innocent preborn babies in the womb.
This money is on top of the “Abortion Practical Support Grant Program” and the “Los Angeles County Abortion Haven Pilot” established in 2022 as well.
“The Abortion Practical Support Grant Program provides assistance for pregnant people seeking abortion care such as lodging, transportation and childcare,” the San Francisco Examiner reporters. “The Los Angeles Abortion Safe Haven Pilot Program acts as an additional support for that city’s increasing role as a safe haven for abortion since the overturning of Roe v. Wade.”
“Grants totaling $80 million were initially allocated for all three programs — half for the Uncompensated Care Grant Program — and $66 million has been awarded so far,” the news outlet reported. “This year’s budget includes a final $9.3 million for 15 organizations under the Uncompensated Care and Los Angeles programs, falling short of what was requested. No additional funding has been awarded beyond June 2026.”
However, this does not mean the state will stop subsidizing the killing of its tiniest citizens. Abortion industry lobbyist Shannon Hovis said “state leaders are clearly very committed to California’s abortion-haven status,” in comments on the latest budget.
The budget, signed by Newsom, promises funding for abortions and protections for dangerous chemical abortion drugs.
California residents do not need millions of dollars for free abortions. The millions of dollars spent could be used on moral and life-affirming care, such as helping women have healthy pregnancies and supporting families. California should stop using taxpayer dollars to subsidize the killing of its tiniest citizens and instead support babies, moms, dads, and families.
