NEWSworthy: France Constitutionally Enshrines Abortion

On March 4 I received an Apple News alert on my phone. There was an image of the Eiffel Tower lit up and a headline noting, “France Becomes First Country in World to Enshrine Abortion in Constitution.” The historic landmark was lit up with the words, “My Body, My Choice” to champion the protection of “women’s rights.”

There are over 1.4 billion people in the world who are active users on an iPhone. Apple can use these news alerts as a way to transmit its worldview. Clearly, a part of its agenda is to convey the opinion that more countries should have abortion be a part of their constitutions and that women have the right to take the lives of their children.

The French bill received overwhelming support with a 780-72 vote. The amendment to Article 34 of the constitution would explicitly enshrine “a woman’s guaranteed freedom to have recourse to an abortion.” France wanted to ensure the ability for all women to take the lives of their children if they desire to do so.

Viewing the remarks of the most powerful individuals in the French government provides insight into how abortion became the law of the land. These quotes allow a deeper understanding of the mindset of those who are radically pro-choice. In order to protect children in the womb, we ought to understand the reasoning of those who speak of abortion rights in borderline religious terms.

French President Emmanuel Macron noted that this was a matter of “French pride” and about sending “a universal message.” Clearly, the French president views abortion as an objectively good choice: Abortion is an action that should bring rejoicing and applause because it is about radical autonomy.

The President of the French National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, said, “I am proud to pay tribute to all the women who have written, have acted, have fought daily so that we can climb the steep slope leading to equality between men and women.” Braun-Pivet sees pregnancy as a threat to women because it makes them less like men, who do not need to be pestered by conceiving, caring for, and giving birth to children.

Prime Minister Gabriel Attal noted: “Above all, we’re sending a message to all women: Your body belongs to you.” Pro-life advocates are clearly viewed as individuals who desire to control women’s bodies. That type of enslavement is no longer welcome in France.

All of these positions neglect to keep a few important facts in mind that are crucial for the pro-life movement. These explanations fail to mention the indisputable scientific fact that abortion ends a human life. Biology can show that, at the moment of conception, there is a unique set of DNA that is unrepeatable. A human life is present.

Second, we also know that the human life inside of the mother is in her body but it is not “her body.” The entire mantra of “my body, my choice” is illogical because the baby inside of the mother is literally not her body. It is the body of another human being. This is further amplified by the fact that countless women refuse to move forward with abortion once they experience the sight of their babies at a sonogram appointment.

Potentially more than 1 billion people received the alert that abortion is a sacred right. Perhaps a better move would be to become educated about what an abortion does rather than champion the “freedom” that it brings for women. Simply because the death of a child brings more comfort and flexibility does not mean that it is the pathway toward a life of greatness.

In fact, it is sacrifice for one’s child that brings the greatest satisfaction in life. Enshrining that would be a better move for France and any other country tempted to follow in its devastating footsteps.

the Psalms were the original prolifers on earth…

The righteous will be glad when they are avenged, when they bathe their feet in the blood of the wicked. Ps 58:10
He will repay them for their sins and destroy them for their wickedness; the LORD our God will destroy them. Ps 94:23
You destroy those who tell lies; bloodthirsty and deceitful men the LORD abhors. Ps 5:5-6
For he who avenges blood remembers; he does not ignore the cry of the afflicted. Ps 9:12
The LORD examines the righteous, but the wicked and those who love violence his soul hates. Ps 11:5
for you will make them turn their backs by shooting your arrows in their faces. Ps 21:12
Evil will slay the wicked; Ps 34:21
