Planned Parenthood offers free vasectomies, abortions at DNC
The Democratic National Convention started on Monday with a bang, with activists dressing up as abortion pills and Planned Parenthood offering free vasectomies and abortion medication. A local affiliate of the abortion giant has set up a mobile health center in Chicago, where the convention is taking place, and there is already a waiting list for vasectomy appointments, the New York Times reports. Offering a similar message, the group Americans for Contraception will inflate a 18-foot-tall intrauterine device.
The Times correctly notes that the mobile clinic “underscores the way this convention, more than any other, is going to be a head-on display of a new, unbridled abortion politics.”
The Democratic Party and its associates are coming out in full force in support of abortion, with the Democratic draft party platform calling the overturning of Roe v. Wade “extreme” and warning, “Today, our daughters have fewer rights than their grandmothers.”
The platform promises to make Roe “the law of the land again” and to repeal the Hyde Amendment, which prevents federal funds from going to abortions. It also pledges to “continue to support access to FDA-approved medication abortion.”
While the Democratic Party platform leaves little room for moderation on the issue of abortion, some Democrats are pushing back. Kristen Day, executive director of Democrats For Life of America, tweeted on Sunday, “Providing free abortions at the DNC is a concerning display of disrespect towards human life and motherhood, as it overlooks the need to provide support and options for a pregnant woman.”
While Planned Parenthood offers vasectomies and chemical abortions, Democrats For Life is hosting a diaper drive for Chicago families.
The Democratic Party’s departure from espousing “safe, legal, and rare” to giving out abortion pills like candy reveals how extreme and out of touch it has become. While many post-abortive women report that abortion was not their first choice, the Democratic Party’s evolution proves that it is not “pro-choice,” but pro-abortion.
Plenty of lobbying groups and healthcare entities stand to gain from a societal embrace of so-called “abortion rights.” But a political party that cared about women and their babies wouldn’t hand out abortion pills; it would hand out diapers.
