Vice President Kamala Harris Launching Pro-Abortion Tour on College Campuses

The Biden White House continues its unflagging commitment to abortion by announcing September 7 that Vice President Kamala Harris will be undertaking a “Fight for Our Freedoms College Tour” to advance “abortion rights” this fall.  The preliminary lineup includes stops at these six schools:

  • Hampton University (Hampton, VA), Sep. 14
  • North Carolina A&T (Greensboro, NC), Sep. 15
  • Morehouse College (Atlanta, GA), Sep 26
  • University of Wisconsin-Madison (Madison, WI) TBD
  • College of Southern Nevada (Las Vegas, NV) TBD
  • Northern Arizona University (Flagstaff, AZ) TBD

The announcement also said additional campus stops are being planned.

The tour is intended to mobilize support for abortion among young people, especially young women.  In the recent abortion referendum in Ohio, among the counties with the strongest pro-abortion turnouts were those where Ohio State and the University of Ohio are located.  The tour is also likely intended to counter campus prolife mobilization among the “Pro-Life Generation” (e.g., movements like Students for Life and campus pro-life groups).  Finally, it points to a strategy of shoring up votes in key states.  These include Virginia, where prolife control of the legislature is up for grabs this November, as well as Arizona (with an abortion referendum planned in 2024), Nevada, and Wisconsin, all swing states in presidential elections.

The full announcement is here.

Focus must be put on the pro-abortion legislators, especially the nominally Catholic ones. Other issues are of lesser consequence. Abortion is the preeminent moral issue of our time as the bishops have said.
It is not enough to tell Catholics to vote; they have to be vigorously told of their obligation to impact the secular culture — told by their episcopal leaders who must speak up with more consistent clout — often !
