Virginia High School Staffers Helped Two Girls Get Secret Abortions, Report Says
A Virginia high school is investigating claims that staffers helped facilitate abortions for two teen girls without their parents’ knowledge.
Fairfax County Schools launched the investigation following media reporting on the controversy. However, the whistleblower said she has been trying for years to get the school to pay attention to what allegedly happened in 2021.
One abortion took place in 2021, according to documents obtained by Curt. The second abortion, reportedly arranged and paid for by school staff, did not occur after the student ran from the abortion facility despite being pressured by a school employee.
As detailed by journalist Walter Curt on his Substack, Centreville High School reportedly helped take the students to their abortions and even paid for it with taxpayer dollars. Curt, based on the allegations from a teacher, Zenaida Perez, turned whistleblower, alleges this was done with the knowledge of the school principal.
If the allegations are true, they would appear to be a violation of Virginia’s parental notification law.
“Two female students—both minors—say school officials arranged and bankrolled abortions at Fairfax Healthcare Center without so much as a phone call to their parents, a direct break with Virginia’s parental-notification law,” Curt wrote on August 5 (emphasis original).
The school district denied the allegations, telling the media “Not to [our] knowledge [has the school arranged abortions for students]. We have launched an immediate investigation into these concerns as soon as we were made aware.”
However, the statement last week that the school launched an “immediate investigation” is questionable.
After the allegations became national, the school reached out to Perez again to interview her. However, she first raised concerns in May 2022, according to Fox News.
“In a nearly three-hour interview, Perez told [a hired school district attorney] how she had blown the whistle seven times about the abortion scandal since May 2022, only to be ignored and then retaliated against,” Fox News reported.
The allegations are certainly concerning. Perez’s story also seems reliable, given that it has reportedly remained consistent and is backed up with documentation. The allegations, if true, should lead to firings and criminal charges against all who broke the law. Schools should be supporting students in choosing life in these difficult situations, not helping them kill their preborn baby.
