Washington State to Destroy $1.3 Million Worth of Abortion Drugs
The state of Washington will destroy 30,000 expiring abortion drugs it bought for its “stockpile.”
The abortion drugs cost the state’s taxpayers $1.3 million, according to the Washington State Standard. The state has another 17,600 drugs in its stockpile, for which it paid about $750,000. This means the prior gubernatorial administration spent at least $2 million to buy nearly 50,000 abortion drugs to help citizens kill the state’s most vulnerable residents.
“Then-Gov. Jay Inslee authorized the purchase of the first 30,000 doses of mifepristone in 2023 as a three-year insurance policy in case the drug was no longer available due to restrictions at the federal level. In Washington, that hasn’t been an issue — at least yet,” the Washington State Standard reported.
Gov. Inslee, a Democrat, did so following a district judge’s ruling that “suspended the Food and Drug Administration’s 23-year-old approval of mifepristone” in 2023, the State Standard previously reported. Following legal challenges, the Supreme Court ultimately upheld the approval of the abortion drugs in a 2024 decision, which found the challengers did not have standing.
Abortion drugs have increased in use since the Supreme Court’s Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision in 2022. They currently account for about two-thirds of all abortions nationwide. As for Washington, the State Standard reported that “in 2024, medication abortions accounted for about 68% of all abortions” in the state.
Over the past several years, Democratic states have sought to buy up abortion drugs to ensure their citizens could kill preborn babies if a subsequent administration limited access to the deadly pills. Massachusetts, for example, paid $677,250 for its own “abortion drug stockpile,” as the College Fix reported.
Washington state also recently allocated $11 million to shore up Planned Parenthood’s funding after Congress voted to defund it.
All abortion drugs aim to end an innocent human life, so they can never truly be considered “safe.” Furthermore, they are also dangerous for the women who take them, according to a comprehensive study of insurance data conducted by the Ethics and Public Policy Center in April.
Nearly 11 percent “of women experience sepsis, infection, hemorrhaging, or another serious adverse event within 45 days following a mifepristone abortion,” the report found. The group called for further restrictions on the drug. The Department of Health and Human Services is currently reviewing the data on abortion drugs.
Washington leaders could have used the millions of dollars they spent on abortion drugs to feed hungry children, help moms and dads in need, or help streamline the adoption process. Instead, they chose to focus on promoting the killing of innocent preborn babies.
