A Poem for Advent

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Advent of My Little Child

Christ My Lord

Oh My Father what was Your Thought

To Send Your Son for me to hold

To offer him a tiny babe

In the weakest of arms, my own?

Whene’er I touch such a babe

As You send

Who has no speech no word no ken

Taken aback I stand in momentous awe

To think the Lord is nigh

As Mary and Joseph did for the Babe

With love and kindness, sacrifice and joy

With ultimate compassion concern and more

Now I think I know that such

Takes more than muscle and might

Takes more than knowledge wisdom

Takes more than insight

Takes a Heart filled with Your Grace,

The Grace You moved from Heaven to stable

A Grace of tears of suffering of death

Help us to know and pray to be filled with thus

As in such a babe I see nigh
