New York Governor Wants $65 Million For Abortionists, Planned Parenthood
New York should spend $65 million on upgrading abortion facilities, according to Governor Kathy Hochul. The Democratic governor’s proposed budget includes millions of dollars to support “abortion access” through a variety of funds.
This includes “an additional $5 million to support abortion access providers for infrastructure investments and bolstering security measures,” a budget item that appears misleadingly under a section on “healthcare.” That is apparently on top of another “$15 million for Securing Reproductive Health Centers capital grants,” which is labeled as a “public safety investment.”
There is also an entire section called “ensuring access to abortion,” which includes $25 million for the existing “Reproductive Freedom and Equity Grant Fund.” The slush fund, established in May 2022, is intended to “ensure equitable access to abortion care across the state.”
Hochul also stands up for the supposedly beleaguered “reproductive health providers” who have “struggled” with rising costs. She proposes “a new $20 million flexible funding stream to support these critical services and to protect the network of reproductive health care providers.”
The budget likely will be amended in some form in the coming weeks. However, Empire State officials have been eager to subsidize the abortion in recent months.
Last October, New York rushed to find $35 million in emergency funds to help Planned Parenthood stay open after Congress temporarily defunded the abortion giant.
“In light of the cuts, Hochul…said New York would fully cover one year of missing Medicaid funds for Planned Parenthood in the state, providing more than $35 million,” Reuters reported.
“In the face of Congressional Republicans voting to defund Planned Parenthood, I’ve directed the state to fund these vital services, protecting access to health care that thousands of New Yorkers rely on,” Hochul announced at the time. “I will always stand up for reproductive rights and the health care that New Yorkers deserve.”
The governor’s statement is misleading, of course. New Yorkers may “deserve” healthcare, such as access to wellness exams, prenatal care for pregnant women, and other basic services to help them stay healthy. But the intentional ending of someone’s life cannot be healthcare, and New Yorkers deserve better.
